Since my college graduation is coming up I thought I'd steal a high school-related meme from Alex.
(On a semi-related note: I discovered through the course of looking in my yearbooks that one of the people I spoke on the phone with about a job at a middle school was an assistant principal at my high school my freshman & sophomore years. And the guy who replaced him is now working at South Kitsap - met him at a career fair. How weird/random is that?)
1. Did you date someone from your school?
Nope. And I probably wouldn't date someone now.
2. Did you win anything in Senior’s ‘Who’s Who’?
Of course not.
3. What kind of car did you drive?
I only drove to school during WASL and when I did it was a 2003 Toyota Matrix. (My sister has it now.)
4. It’s Friday night…where are you?
At home. Maybe watching movies at a friend's house.
5. Were you a party animal?
Um, no.
6. Were you considered a flirt?
Ha! Yeah, right.
7. Were you in band, orchestra, or choir?
I was an ork-dork from 5th grade to 12th grade. (Hey, it got me to Hawaii and Vancouver, B.C.)
8. Were you a nerd?
I guess I could have been considered a nerd (I personally consider myself a geek) but so were my friends so it was all good.
9. Did you get suspended/expelled?
Are you kidding me? I didn't even get any Incident Reports my entire time in elementary school.
10. Can you sing the fight song?
Something, something, something, blue and green and gold!
11. Who were your favorite teachers?
Yeah, none of them really stand out in my mind. Um, I guess the ones I went on the class trip to England with.
12. Where did you sit during lunch?
At the end of the C hall (or was it D?) by the pop/vending machines (Cheez-Its & Coke for lunch almost everyday). It was great - my friends and I would take up almost the entire hallway and throw things at each other.
13.What was your school’s full name?
Shorecrest
14. School mascot?
Highlanders/Scots (and yes, our marching band wore kilts)
15. Were you on homecoming court?
Oh hell no.
16. If you could go back and do it again, would you?
Maybe parts of it but definitely not the whole thing.
17. What do you remember most about graduation?
The fact that they wouldn't turn the air conditioning on at Hec Ed. We were the second class to graduate there that day, it was freakishly warm outside, and the robes did not breathe.
18. Where did you go senior skip day?
My friends and I went to the mall (we got there before it opened too) and then I think we went to a park later (that may have been on another day we skipped).
20.Were you in any clubs?
Unless you count orchestra as a club, none.
25. Who was your Senior prom date?
No one; I didn't go. (And don't regret it.)
26. Are you planning on going to your 10 year reunion?
Maybe. It depends on when it is, where it is, and if I know one of my friends from high school will be there. (I am grateful we're not having a 5 year reunion.)
27. Do you still talk to people from high school?
Kind of. I read the blog of one and when another one shows up online we occasionally talk.
THINK BACK TO 9TH GRADE…
- Who was your best friend?
Andrea, Carin, and the Angies (there were two)
- What sport did you play?
None. I'm so not athletic.
- What was your favorite class?
How about my least favorite class? The one where the teacher jumped up and down and whined to get us to do stuff. Yeah, that was annoying. (That was the only class I got a C in too.)
-Did you go to the dances?
Again, hell no.
-Did you think you were cool?
Psh. No. But my friends and I enjoyed each other's company.
-Describe your outfits
Based on my yearbook photo, t-shirt & jeans - pretty much what I wear now.
- Did you even have a cellphone
My family had one but I didn't personally get one until my junior year.
- What was the best about 9th grade?
Apparently getting to know people if the comments in my yearbook are anything to go by. (And I stayed friends with most of them throughout high school.)
- Do you miss it?
To be honest, I don't remember much of it. The only thing that really sticks in my mind is moving from eating lunch in the cafeteria to the C hall. Oh, and my sister being there to bug me.
It is 4:03 on the West Coast and I am officially done with everything I have to do for my student teaching. My unit plan is done and submitted for review. My reflection on my unit is done and submitted for review. The exit stuff for my online math portfolio is done and submitted for review. You know what this means? This means I have absolutely nothing left to do this week except sit in classes and observe teachers. This means I can watch TV/movies and read books without worrying about not getting something done on time. Of course, now that I have all this free time I don't know what I want to do first. (My dad suggests I clean my room but that's probably not going to happen.) But whatever. I'm free and it's never felt better. And since I already have a job lined up for next year I don't have to worry about that either. Now if only it could be Friday already so I can be completely done with my student teaching.
Show us what you're working on right now.

Actually, right now, it's more like can't speak.
My fever may have passed Thursday but now my sore throat is starting to impair my job. It was horrible; for most of the day I sounded like a teenage boy whose voice was changing. In 6th period I got the students to do things for me by promising to whisper if they did. (My whispers came out like squeaks which greatly amused them.) I spent an extra half-hour after school today making copies of back-up worksheets in case I really don't have a voice tomorrow and can't verbally teach the new unit. I wish I could take a sick day but since I've already missed 2 days and we get Memorial Day off, I'm down to exactly 52 days of student teaching - which is the minimum amount we're supposed to do. Oh well. I guess I'll just have to stay silent for most of the day and only speak when absolutely necessary. Oh, and try not to yell over my students too much.
What, if anything, did you put off all weekend?
Finishing my unit plan and some homework for my Reading in the Content Field class (although I did do some other productive stuff like buying new clothes). However, I still have tomorrow to do all that and they aren't due until Wednesday & Thursday. Thank goodness for 3-day weekends.
I really hate it when you e-mail people on Thursday to ask when they want to meet on the weekend to work on a project that's due Tuesday and they don't respond. Ever. And then you meet with one of them Friday to work on a different project and you discuss meeting on the weekend for the first project but they still don't tell you when they want to meet this weekend. I know my e-mail is still working because I got e-mails from other people yesterday. I'd call them to ask what the hell is going on but I seem to have lost their phone numbers. I guess I'll try sending them another e-mail but I think I'll mark it as "urgent" this time. Maybe that'll get their attention.
Show us what the weekend has in store for you.
Show us where you work.

So yesterday I said it was the coldest it's ever been in the 5 years I've been living here. Well scratch that because today just beat it out for the top spot. Today at 8:40 AM it is 1.0 degrees F. There's also a 3 mph breeze which makes it -6 degrees F with the wind chill. I seriously just want to go back to bed and never come out (and the cold is only one of those reasons). It's days like this that make me hope they'll just cancel all classes before noon. I really, really, really want it to be summer already.
Edit: I was walking back from class and I passed a guy who was wearing jeans and a t-shirt. As in, there was no jacket present. Or gloves. Or earmuffs. It's 11 degrees outside and he was wearing jeans and a t-shirt. I have no idea how he was still moving. Also, I opened my curtains for the first time in a few days and the condensation that accumulates every night was crystallized on the glass. It was actually kind of cool looking.
Time: 8:30 AM. Temperature: 1.9 degrees F. My current mood: kill me now. This is the fifth winter I've spent in this town and this is currently the coldest it's ever been while I've been here. I'm so very, very tempted to skip my 10 o'clock class and hope it warms up some (like, maybe reach double digits) before my 2 o'clock one. Also, can I go back to Saturday and start the weekend over because that would be really nice. I can already tell this week is not going to be a good one.
Edit: Time: 9:40 AM. Temperature: 7 degrees F. Since it's warmed up slightly (5 degrees in an hour is pretty good) and I was able to finish a chunk of homework that I didn't do over the weekend, I think I'm going to bite the bullet and go to my 10 o'clock class. It better not be canceled when I get up there.
Edit 2: Time: 11:20 AM. Temperature: 12 degrees F. My nose did not fall off walking to and from class but at times it certainly felt like it was about to. I think I'm going to take a shower to help me warm up.
