As of 4 PM yesterday I am officially moved and checked out of my apartment at college. It felt very weird standing in my empty apartment while my apartment manager checked me out knowing that I probably won't be back there anytime soon. I'm going to miss some things about Ellensburg but I will say it's nice to be on the West side of the mountains. And of course, it wouldn't have been a trip over the mountains without seeing a caravan of Army vehicles and numerous Wal-Mart trucks. Unfortunately, now that the move is all finished I have to start working on getting a job, finding a new apartment, and moving out of my parents' house. I just wish I had more time to do it in.

Our week of freakishly cold weather has finally ended. It's currently 29 degrees F outside right now and, surprisingly, it feels good. It was so nice to walk across campus today and not have every inch of skin covered. It was also nice that my nose no longer felt like it was about to freeze off every time I stepped outside.
As I was walking to and from the library there were a half dozen kids or so walking and playing on the frozen Ganges (our name for the irrigation canal that runs through campus). Now, I know it's been 20-30 degrees below freezing for the past week but I would not want to take my chances with the ice over the Ganges. Even though there's hardly any water in it during the winter, I do not want to think about what I would fall into if the ice broke. Oh well, it's their health they're putting at risk, not mine.
I know there are some people in my 'hood who watch "Chuck" (Chuckers? Chucksters?) so if you haven't already heard: NBC is airing the last 2 episodes of "Chuck" tonight. The first one airs at 8 PM and the second one airs at 10 PM. Even though I'm sad these are the last episodes of "Chuck" I'm happy to finally have new episodes of a TV show that isn't a reality show.
Oh, and in the continuing weather saga - it got down to 0 degrees F sometime last night (which WeatherBug is reporting as -0 which is impossible *is a math geek*). Thankfully it's warmed up to 3 degrees and I'm hoping it hits 4 or 5 before I leave for class. And thank God tomorrow's Friday so I only have to brave the cold to and from one class. Hopefully it starts warming up around here soon. And by warming up I mean reaching freezing at some point.
So yesterday I said it was the coldest it's ever been in the 5 years I've been living here. Well scratch that because today just beat it out for the top spot. Today at 8:40 AM it is 1.0 degrees F. There's also a 3 mph breeze which makes it -6 degrees F with the wind chill. I seriously just want to go back to bed and never come out (and the cold is only one of those reasons). It's days like this that make me hope they'll just cancel all classes before noon. I really, really, really want it to be summer already.
Edit: I was walking back from class and I passed a guy who was wearing jeans and a t-shirt. As in, there was no jacket present. Or gloves. Or earmuffs. It's 11 degrees outside and he was wearing jeans and a t-shirt. I have no idea how he was still moving. Also, I opened my curtains for the first time in a few days and the condensation that accumulates every night was crystallized on the glass. It was actually kind of cool looking.
So Heath Ledger's dead and it just boggles my mind. I think it'll take awhile before it actually sinks in that he's dead. I feel so sorry for his daughter. She's what? 2? No kid should have to lose a parent at that young of age.
Wow. So, yeah. In happier (I guess) news it got up to 21 degrees F today. It is currently (7:50 PM) 10.9 degrees. They say it's supposed to get down to 4 tonight and up to 26 tomorrow and I'm inclined to believe them. It's so clear tonight too that the moon is freakishly full and bright. If it wasn't so cold I'd go out and look at it for awhile.
Time: 8:30 AM. Temperature: 1.9 degrees F. My current mood: kill me now. This is the fifth winter I've spent in this town and this is currently the coldest it's ever been while I've been here. I'm so very, very tempted to skip my 10 o'clock class and hope it warms up some (like, maybe reach double digits) before my 2 o'clock one. Also, can I go back to Saturday and start the weekend over because that would be really nice. I can already tell this week is not going to be a good one.
Edit: Time: 9:40 AM. Temperature: 7 degrees F. Since it's warmed up slightly (5 degrees in an hour is pretty good) and I was able to finish a chunk of homework that I didn't do over the weekend, I think I'm going to bite the bullet and go to my 10 o'clock class. It better not be canceled when I get up there.
Edit 2: Time: 11:20 AM. Temperature: 12 degrees F. My nose did not fall off walking to and from class but at times it certainly felt like it was about to. I think I'm going to take a shower to help me warm up.
Any day that starts out at a whopping 8.4 degrees F is not going to be a good day. Especially when it's only warmed up to 13.4 degrees F in a half hour. Where is global warming when you need it?
