Need some spooky treats for your Halloween bash? BakingBites.com has some great suggestions.
First up, vampire cupcakes that "bleed":
I baked my cupcakes, used the cupcake-filling technique I used on my devil’s food cupcakes to fill the cakes up with pureed cherry pie filling (canned or homemade) and topped them off with white icing to best accentuate the red bite marks. I made the marks using a skewer dipped in leftover cherry filling, making sure to leave a clear impression of a fang bite, rather than just a red streak on top of the cake.
They give a recipe for the cupcakes & frosting but I'm sure you could always use boxed cake mix & pre-made frosting if you wanted to (I know I would) and you can always replace the cherry filling with strawberry or raspberry filling.
Next up are mummy cookies:
And finally, gingerbread skeleton cookies:
I would make one of these recipes this week but I just don't have the time. They all look delicious though.
I found this recipe a few years ago when I was going through some of my grandmother's old recipes. It's very good.
Slice 3-4 large apples, peeled & cored, into a buttered 1 1/2 quart baking dish. Sprinkle over them 1/2 cup sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, and 2 tablespoons water.
Stir just to mix ingredients and arrange apples evenly in dish. Cover with Cheese Crumble and bake for about 45 minutes in a 325 degree oven or until apples are tender and topping is a rich, golden brown. Serve warm with or without cream.
Cheese Crumble:
1 cup flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup grated mild Cheddar cheese
1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted
Crumble mixture evenly over top of apples in baking dish.
